HERBIE'S HINTS (named after my dad!)

Herbie was not a self-promoter. He was just the opposite. My dad would never nominate himself for anything yet he nominated others who won awards with the frequency that we drink water.

I fight with that “gene” every day. When is it marketing and when is it self-promotion? Is self-promotion bad or just something Herbie shied away from? Every time I get an email about an award for which you CAN self-nominate, I think about how my dad would react and delete the email.

Allow me to “promote” my next zoom session. You can win Starbucks cards during the interactive session. This is my Birthday Month so I am giving gifts for real time participation during the session. Participation optional during this interactive upcoming experience.

Keeping him in mind I want to “promote” my next zoom session: When You Present at the Executive Level

  • Why it is different than presenting peer-to-peer
  • One thing you need to implement every time
  • Do you know how PowerPoint has changed with Zoom?
  • Can you name one PowerPoint SIN?

You don't have to be an executive or aspire to be an executive to present effectively to a C- level audience.

When: April 22 @ 12pm EST
Duration: 30 minutes

A brief excerpt from last month’s zoom session on Executive Presence. You don’t have to be born with it. You can even learn to appear taller!

Above is an excerpt of the session and there may be a take-away for you.

In honor of my birthday SEASON I am giving gifts to YOU. I believe our birthday is a SEASON, not a day, a week, or even a month. My birthday month is April so let the SEASON of gift giving begin!.
1. HorseTalk the Experience
Join a small group of brave adventurers: June 11 and July 30 are half days and September 10 is a full day. Or bring your own group with you on the day of your choice! When you give me the gift of your participation at one of our HorseTalk sessions this summer I will give you the gift of half off your individual cost or your total group cost.

Lesson Learned:  One lesson you will learn is that you have to be more interesting than manure! In your life outside of the pasture you have to be more interesting than your audience’s latest text or email!
2. HorseTalk the Keynote
Refer me or hire me to talk to a group, industry event or association meeting (in person/zoom) about the HorseTalk experience: Cowboy hat and whip will be included. Your gift will be a 30 minute coaching session in-person, zoom or phone.

Lesson Learned: You can't hurry a horse. When you work with a horse if you act like you have all day it will take 15 minutes. If you act like you only have 15 minutes it will take all day. There are things in your life that you can’t hurry such as experience and expertise.
3. HorseTalk the Round Pen Version
Come to the Round Pen by yourself for a coaching session with you, me and a horse and receive the gift of a follow-up coaching session as part of the package.

Lesson Learned: The horse will teach you invaluable lessons as your 4-legged mirror. I am there to translate those lessons from horse to English! Remember how you are with a horse in the Round Pen IS how you are with anyone, any place.

If Benji was a person he might be diagnosed as bi-polar. Or maybe just moody, spoiled or at the least inconsistent! If you saw us at the park, on one day you may think he is the best trained dog ever. On another day, in another minute, you are turning to go the other way when you see his “terrorist” behavior.

You might think it doesn’t matter, he is a dog. But dog or human, inconsistent behavior slows progress. Everyone has had the boss that they tried to assess mood before entering their office. That slows down forward movement when you wait for a better mood.

Consistency is a huge value in animals and people. Think of the consistency required for a guide dog or a therapy dog. The consistency that is valued in a race horse than can win more times than not or an athlete than can replicate success.

There are many things you and all of us can’t control in our personal and professional lives. One thing we can control is how consistent we are as both proactive and reactive to the events and people around us.

Please think about what 14-26 year olds you know or are related to that could benefit from this Boot Camp.
