As 2020 evolved, my words to describe the year evolved also.
My words became Resilient, Re-Imagine, Re-Brand, GRIT and Pivot. Each world fit our-safer-at-home-wear-a-mask-work-from-whenever world. Now we turn to 2021. On one hand all the words still apply. We are not done being resilient, re-imaging our work or home life, or needing to have and exhibit GRIT.
I believe that 2021 deserves to have its own word. My word for 2021 is GRACE.
The definition I WILL USE is “courteous goodwill”. Regardless of you politics we have lived through a very angry four years. When angry it is even harder to exhibit courteous goodwill. I would like to say it my word for the year, but I don’t have to exhibit it. I think we as a country need the golden rule of do as I say and as do.
70+ million Americans, our neighbors, our family, our friends and our clients, don’t agree with us, whatever we think. Can we extend them goodwill? Can I extend them goodwill?
Can we be courteous in our mind as well as our deed? My deeds don’t worry me, but if there was a prison for thought crimes, I would be in it.
Grace is also defined as “simple elegance or refinement of movement”. No one will ever mistake me for a ballet dancer, but it doesn’t mean I don’t try to be more graceful.
My word for 2021 is GRACE. I will try not to just talk about it.
