I. Herbie's Helpful Hint (named after my Dad)
My undergraduate and graduate degrees are both in Communication and Rhetoric. When I was working on these degrees in the 70's, my Dad would
ask me, "just what is rhetoric"? He was still asking me thirty years later.
Rhetoric has gotten a bad wrap, "its just rhetoric", people say.
Rhetoric is simply persuasive speaking, which is what you do the majority
of everyday. The last time you spoke to simply inform was probably in college
when you gave an informative speech.
You spend most of every day persuading someone to do something or think some way. How are you doing?
II. Mishmash of Value:
1. Oscar Wrap
Three comments about the Oscars in review:
a. Seineld was funnier in three minutes than Ellen was in three hours. You think those three minutes were an audition for next year?
Lesson Learned:
b. Catherine Deneuvre and Faye Dunaway looked frightful. Helen Mirren, in the same age group, looked phenomenal.
Lesson Learned:
c. Hollywood encompasses the brightest, most creative minds in the world. They "should" be able to produce the most dynamic, entertaining three hours on television. Three hours of tortuous boredom is the best they can do?
Lesson Learned:
2. Verizon - Can You Hear Me?
My saga of a new cell phone has been long and frustrating. With what I have spent in the last 20 years on cell phone bills I could have bought a small South American country or a Bentley. After research and completing my last Verizon contract, I finally purchased a new phone. I got home at 9:30 pm and no phone charger had been included. So in my quest to get a better phone, the next day I would have no phone. The next morning I went back for my charger. Problem was, my phone would be dead for the day. I asked to have a car charger for one day, so I would have a usable phone. I was told I was unreasonable.
Lesson Learned:
